Had a look at the DS3 today and in the showroom was a 150 THP Sport in Black with a white roof, full leather and black alloys

To be honest with the heavily tinted rear side quarters it didn't look right, especially with a white dash, so unless your a serious Newcastle United supporter well...........

However they also had a lower spec car in Sport Red with a white roof and that did look very nice, although the 16" white alloys looked to small

Delivery times?

Well I was informed that those that have ordered now for the next consignment should get there cars in May, the next consignment will not be in until July! so you may have to wait to get the car of your choice.

I would take my time personally and wait until you can see the car in different colours before making a decision as what to order

Hi All, I am Ken a prospective DS3 owner who today road tested the above model.

I arrived at the dealer Evans Halshaw in Reading for my test drive with Sam Wadie the sales executive.
I tested a 1.6HDI DStyle model in the stunning Sport Yellow.

The model I tested had a few extras on it, with the City Signature and Connect Signature packs and also the digital air conditioning.

My first impressions of the car were that it is even more stunning in the flesh than it is in any pictures I have seen.

Looking purposeful and muscular with very much a stocky feel to it. I was given a guide to the controls and then handed the key as we set of on a mixture of A roads and twisting country roads. The seating position I found a little strange as I seemed to be sat very much on the seats rather the feeling like I was sat in them. The clutch bite was very high compared with other cars I have driven recently although this was not a problem after a while. The steering wheel is sculpted to give a 'better' feel in your hands i suppose but I just found that i couldn't find a position for my hands that felt right and it bothered me throughout the whole drive.

The rear seat head restraints had all been left in the extended position and left very little vision out of the rear of the car. It was only on my return to the showroom that i discovered that they can be almost fully lowered to give much better rear view.

Once out on the road the DS3 feels well balanced with a precision and sure footed feel that inspired confidence. The road noise as we passed through some roadworks where the surface is very uneven was surprisingly high. I was also not expecting the car to be as noisy as it was at motorway speeds, with a noticeable wind roar at speeds above 65mph. There were touches i did like, such as the economy indicator that suggests up changes at optimum speeds for best fuel economy, the automatic lighting and the auto sensing wipers, all very much a staple on new cars today. The feel through the bends on the twist country road was impressive and the power surprising from what is quite a torquey little engine.

I have to say that I am very impressed with the quality feel of the car and the performance for what is such an economical engine. I am even more keen to buy than i was before but I will probably book another drive just to find out if the wind noise is typical.

I was disappointed to find out that there are only few models around in dealer showrooms but that there is nothing even close to the configuration i am after. The 3 month wait for my desired configuration will I am sure be long and tortuous.

i would be very interested to find out what other members feel about their test drives.

Ken

Finally the day arrived when I collected my much awaited DS3 1.6 D-Style, and I can tell you that it was worth every single minute of the 3 month wait!

When we collected it the dealership took photos as we were the first people to have a 'custom built' model.
The ride is a smooth as silk really comfortable.

I have had loads of people looking at the car while driving it around, which is brilliant as it obviously means the car is as gorgeous to everyone else as it is to me! Also, I have yet to see another one on the road, so clearly these are truely unique cars.

I hope everyone else has as much fun as I have when they get their cars..........

What is it?

Citroen's DS3 Racing is the hardcore version of the DS3 THP 156, the turbocharged DS3 that is the quickest and most engaging in the DS3 range of warm-to-hottish hatchbacks. Engine power rises to a round 200PS, or 197bhp in old money, with suspension, steering, brakes and wheels toughened up to suit. It's the creation of CitroΫn Racing, the competition department behind the somewhat successful Citroen World Rally cars. It appeared at this year's Geneva show as a 'concept' car.

Technical highlights

The engine gains strengthened components, a re-map which includes more boost pressure, and a freer-flowing exhaust system. It's not the latest variable-valve-lift version of the engine now used in turbocharged Minis but a development of the earlier unit. Citroen is getting it certified as a low-volume car which avoids costly legal tests but limits it to 1000 units. Cleverly, it will also make another version with fractionally different engine calibration which will allow another 1000 cars. The two will feel almost exactly the same to drive.

Springs and dampers are stiffened, more so at the back, and the ride height drops by 15mm. Front and rear tracks are 30mm wider, thanks to greater offset in the 18in wheels. The dampers are specially-developed, in-house Peugeot-Citroen items, and the larger front brakes get four-pot calipers.

What’s it like to drive?

Evo drove a late development DS3 Racing on a twisting, undulating test track and the signs are promising. The engine note isn't as hard-edged as a Cooper JCW's but there's almost no turbo lag and the 203lb ft of torque gives great punch out of corners. The stiffened tail helps point the nose keenly into corners and there's plenty of scope for more line-tightening if you back off the power.

Citroen has resisted the temptation to give the DS3 R (as people will surely call it) a rock-hard ride, so it should work well on lumpy UK roads. What it lacks is total crispness around the steering's straight-ahead position. 'It's a problem with electric power steering,' says engineer Pierre Budar, 'but we are trying to make it better.' The ESP can be switched off completely.

Unusually deep side bolsters help the seats to give plenty of lateral support, but the bright orange dashboard is a bit distracting. It goes with the roof colour, the wheels and the 'orange chrome' that surrounds the front grille, but there will also be a white body/grey roof combination if you favour a calmer DS3 R. The stickers won't be obligatory.

How does it compare?

It's softer-edged than a Clio Cup, in steering precision, throttle response (the Clio has no turbo) and ride quality, but it should devour roads just as quickly and you'll probably feel calmer by the drive's end. Similarly, it will probably be easier to live with than a Cooper JCW, being just as rapid and rather more fluent in its feel. It's a hot hatch designed to grow on you rather than knock your socks off on a test drive.

Anything else I need to know?

Expect a price around £19,000, with sales starting in the autumn. The cars won't be numbered, despite the '000' plaque on the concept car, but that carbonfibre on the wheelarches and in the cabin is real.

Source: Evo Magazine: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/253771/citroen_ds3_racing_review.html

It also locks the ipod screen .Citroen took it out and refunded my money.
Do not buy this unit as it does not work, you will have to stick to the 3.5mm jack

Hi there.

I recently picked up my DSport with the hi-fi system and to be honest, compared to my old Toyota Avnesis I think it sounds a bit pants! It seems to get the best out of the system, you need Loudness on, the "Musical Ambience" on Pop-rock and the bass to be on around 3 otherwise you get the "farts"

The sub sounds ok with bass guitar but sometimes the drum beat can go a bit "farty"

I was looking at upgrading some of the speakers, and sub if possible. Does anyone know what size the speaakers are in the doors, the tweeters on the dash, and the sub? My heavy handiness will probably break clips if I try to find out myself!!

As far as i know from reading the literature there is a amp in the boot, does this run all the speakers or just the sub? It take it if I want to disconnect the built-in sub to have a different one (Either in an enclosure or a bass tube) that it would just plug into the amp.

I dont want to change the head unit because of all the integrated features it has.

Any answers greatly received. Or if anyone has found the "ultimate" setting for getting good results from it please let me know.

Dan

Hi all. In the snow tonight I was kicking off the snow from around the front wheel arches. Then the side sill/skirt fell off. Well half of it, while the back half was still stuck to the car. So half on, half on the ground. I had a look at the connections. It was dark but seen it was held on by clips. At least one of the clips was broken. I cleared all the ice away and tried to push the clips back into place but couldnt.

I know it can be fixed by the garage but my question is, how much are the wee clips and how much of a job would it be to fix, in terms of the dealer charging extortionate rates.

I hope some of the guys from C4Os website would know from experience from the sills/skirts on the C4s.

Cheers guys.

It’s the new DS3 WRC powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection 4-cylinder engine, and the big question is will it be able to bring home the seventh world title for Citroen and eighth for their first driver Sebastien Loeb?

Citroen Racing has definitely got the right drivers for the job. The have the extraordinary team of Sébastien Loeb-Daniel Elena and the new boys Sébastien Ogier-Julien Ingrassia. Three more Citroën DS3 WRCs will be driven by privateers: Petter Solberg, Kimi Räikkönen and Peter van Merksteijn. Petter Solberg-Chris Patterson will start all thirteen rounds, Kimi Räikkönen-Kaj Lindström will take part in ten rallies, while Peter van Merksteijn-Eddy Chevaillier will begin their season at the Portuguese Rally.

Here’s an interview with Olivier Quesnel – Citroën Racing Director, Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier:

“Citroën Racing is one big family”What’s the overall feeling at the start of the coming season? Are you impatient, relaxed or worried?

OQ: “I wouldn’t say that we feel particularly relaxed! It’s true that I’m looking forward to being in Sweden to find answers to all the questions that we’re asking ourselves at the moment. Have we done a good job? Have we missed out on something? We’ll only know a part of the answers at the end of the opening stages, but it should be remembered that Sweden is not really representative of the world championship as a whole. We also have to keep a cool head. Citroën Racing is a proven winning machine, and there’s no reason why it should go on the blink from one day to the next. I have every confidence in the team’s work, but we’re very impatient to take the start of the Swedish Rally!”

Do you think you can handle the rivalry between Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier?

OQ: “It’ll be easy in Sweden! Both drivers are starting off with a blank score sheet. As was always the case in the past, Citroën is giving them absolutely identical cars. If one sets a better time than the other it’s simply because he’s quicker. I’m not the kind of guy who puts himself under pressure: I don’t have to cope with any rivalry at the moment. What I can tell you is that we all belong to the same family. While the drivers’ title is a bit more prestigious and receives more media coverage, the manufacturers’ crown has considerable importance for the make. Our two drivers are intelligent guys and they’re fully aware of what’s at stake for Citroën.”

Citroën Racing Technologies is putting three DS3 WRCs at the disposal of private drivers. What’s the aim of this?

OQ: “While awaiting the arrival of new manufacturers in the WRC, I think it’s Citroën’s duty to help improve the appeal of the championship. That’s why we’re happy with the agreements reached with Petter Solberg, Kimi Räikkönen and Peter van Merksteijn. Citroën Racing’s ultimate aim is not to rent out cars, but we’re proud to be able to count these drivers as part of our family.”

Citroën Racing’s activities are not limited to the WRC alone. 2010 was marked by the unveiling of the DS3 R3 and the DS3 Racing. What conclusions have you drawn from these launches?

OQ: “The DS3 R3 is the continuation of a long line of cars aimed at privateers. In just a few months it has become the new benchmark in its category. From a sales point of view this has resulted in a much greater number of orders compared to what we expected. We’re delighted with the success of the DS3 R3 for which we’ve provided a showcase by organizing the Citroën Racing Trophies all over Europe. The DS3 Racing has also been a success.”

What are the perspectives in these two domains?

“Designing series production sports models is a new activity for Citroën Racing, and it provides the make with fresh perspectives by opening up new markets. Boosted by the success of the DS3 Racing, we’re thinking about adapting other models in the DS range. Concerning the competition/client department we’re interested in a possible ‘FIA R4’ set of regulations, which will help to develop R3-type cars with 4-wheel drive. It would be a fantastic tool for training young drivers.”

The ‘FFSA Rallye Jeunes’ operation for detecting and training young hopefuls has often been put forward as a benchmark for this type of initiative. Today, Citroën has announced a partnership with the French Motor Sports Federation to revive this scheme. Why?

OQ: “I think it’s a totally logical association. By entering Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier in the World Rally Championship, Citroën is making young French people dream about becoming rally drivers themselves. With ‘Rallye Jeunes’, a concept developed by the FFSA, we’re going to provide them with the opportunity to touch this dream by giving them the chance to prove themselves at the wheel of a DS3. For the most gifted the path is already laid out right up to the top. I’d also add that ‘Rallye Jeunes’ is a fantastic marketing operation, as it will enable thousands of youngsters to go to the Citroën dealerships and discover our make’s world.”

Can you give some more information about the conditions?

OQ: “The sporting process is decided by the FFSA: the participants must be between 18 and 25 years of age. Six regional competitions in France will decide the best drivers who will qualify for a national final. The official launch of the operation should take place at the 2011 French Rally, and the two winners will be awarded a 6-race programme in the French Rally Championship.”

Questions to Xavier Mestelan-Pinon, Citroën Racing Technical Manager

“Rack up the kilometres”

What’s happened since the unveiling of the Citroën DS3 WRC at the Paris Motor Show last October?

XMP: “Our priority has been to rack up the kilometres in testing in all kinds of conditions. Thanks to the construction of a second DS3 WRC for test purposes we’ve been able to organize a session every fortnight. These tests have allowed us to work on reliability, and also to get to know the car, how it reacts to setup changes etc. As time passed we froze the technical definition of the car. These past few weeks we’ve been concentrating on what might look like details, but which aren’t – quite the opposite, in fact – like the positioning of the safety equipment and the FIA management systems, the installation of the crews and training them how work on the car outside the service parks. Our main difficulty has been trying to find hot weather conditions to work in: we managed to find some heat in the south of Europe.”

Have you any worries about the car’s reliability?

XMP: “I think we’ve done a pretty good job considering the time we’ve had at our disposal to bring this project to fruition. Obviously, risks exist. Don’t forget that the DS3 WRC is a completely new car, unlike the C4, which was derived from the Xsara.”

The most recent change was the tyres. What impact has this had on the development of the car?

XMP: “As Michelin has been one of Citroën’s historic partners, first of all I have to say how delighted I am to be working with this manufacturer again and a part of its engineering team. This enthusiasm in no way detracts from how satisfied we feel about the three years we spent with our previous partner. The profile of the Michelin tyres is fundamentally different, so we‘ve had to revise quite a few things in the area of the geometry of the running gear, the stiffness of the suspension, camber, anti-roll bars etc. The Michelin tyres are quick and they behave very precisely, particularly on asphalt.”

Do you think that these new world rally cars will be more spectacular than the previous ones?

XMP: “The smaller size will reduce the inertia. With no central differential, the cars will move about more under braking, even on asphalt. The engine will rev higher and make more noise. The absence of the semi-automatic gear selection will oblige the drivers to battle a bit more with the steering wheel. I’d say that these cars will be more fun to watch for the spectators.”

Questions to Sébastien Loeb

“This season is a new challenge”

How does it feel to drive the Citroën DS3 WRC?

SL: “The car feels very different to the C4. The DS3’s shorter and so it’s more agile in the tight corners, but it’s also twitchier in the faster sections. Overall we’re going to have to do more work behind the steering wheel for several reasons: the behaviour of the car caused by its size, the lack of the central differential, which shared out the traction between the front and the rear, the return to mechanical gear selection, which means we’ll have to let go of the wheel.”

Are you happy with the work done during the winter break?

SL: “I think the team’s done a good job, but we haven’t achieved the same level of development on all types of terrain. We’ve spent a lot of time on gravel as it’s the type of surface we’ll race on most frequently in the world championship. I reckon we‘ve still got a lot of progress to make on snow, but it’s difficult to calculate as we haven’t really got a basis for comparison given the way the new regulations have radically modified the cars’ behaviour.”

What do you think of the new regulations? Are they good for the drivers?

SL: “Yes, the car’s nice to drive. The performance of the engine means you can really get the best out of the chassis. Of course as always, we’d like more power, but I think the new WRCs will be very spectacular. As a driver you have to have the right feel to optimize the trajectories to carry the highest possible speed through the corners.”

What does this season represent for you?
SL: “It’s a new challenge with far more unknown factors than in previous years. Our rivals have developed their cars and we’ll have to wait for the opening rallies to establish a hierarchy. But even before that I have to be quicker than the guys who have the same car as me. Beating Sébastien Ogier and Petter Solberg will be a tough challenge! I think it’ll be a difficult season, but that only serves to boost my motivation even more!”

Questions to Sébastien Ogier

“I can’t wait to fight against the stop watch”

How do you feel behind the wheel of the Citroën DS3 WRC?

SO: “Like Seb I find that the more compact size of the DS3 has both advantages and disadvantages depending on the type of terrain. As the engine has less torque than what we’ve been used to, you have to keep the revs up all the time, a bit like with a normally aspirated engine. Because of the return to mechanical gear selection, the changes will be a bit slower and the driver will have to work harder. It won’t pose problems in normal conditions, but could become tiring when it’s very hot or at the end of long stages.”

Are you satisfied with the work that’s been done during the break?

SO: “I’ve been very impressed by the team’s capacity for work as we’ve done a lot of testing since the end of last season. I reckon the time’s been used well. I can’t wait to be at the start of the Swedish Rally to fight against the stop watch.”

Do you think the new regulations are a good thing for the World Rally Championship?

SO: “The aim is to attract new manufacturers. This year a third make will join in, and that’s positive for everybody beginning with the spectators. I think that these new cars will be very spectacular with more sliding about and higher-revving engines. There’s no doubt that it’ll be at least as impressive as in previous years.”

What are your aims in your first full season in the Citroën Total World Rally Team?

SO: “There are so many unknown factors that it’s difficult to give a precise aim. The results of the Swedish Rally won’t really provide a clear picture of the championship hierarchy. We’ll know more about it after three or four rounds. Where we’re concerned we won’t be starting the first event in an overambitious frame of mind. So far we’ve only raced in two winter rallies, and it’ll be difficult to compete on an equal footing with the Scandinavian drivers. Even if it’s a long term objective I’m not obsessed by winning the world title. On the other hand, I want to score points in each rally, be among the front-runners and gain more experience in the WRC.”

Although I haven't received my DS3 yet I've already started looking into what I would want to do.

I already mentioned I don't want to modify any of the bodywork. So I know it's not to everyones taste. but like on my old C4 I aim to get the mudflaps for the DS3 as I think they would go well and add a sportier look.

I would probably tinker with it performance wise too with a remap if they are available and smaller tweaks to try get it near the 200hp mark.

Last of all as I kept meaning to do with my old C4 I want to get a personalised plate. Not sure yet as to what I will get but DS11DMS is a possibility if I go for a plate in the current style.

If you have any other recommendations then please let me know.

I have a front seat arm rest my DS3. While it seems a bit more upmarket to have it, I find that I have it constantly up out of the way. Because it is a smaller car, the space in the front is at a premium. Having the arm rest down interferes with using the hand brake and even changing gears.

I think I would much prefer a couple of drink holders instead. They are sorely missed.

Anyone else feel like this?

Hi,

I have a DSport DS3 with the 17" alloys. We live out in the hills and winter tyres are an absolute must. I'm thinking of getting a set of four 16" steel wheel rims kitted out with winter tyres so that I can just swap them over myself, as and when needed (and stop my nice alloys getting trashed in winter too)!

The Citroen garage said they can get me a set of four steel rims with the following specification:
Part #: 5401 V3
Size: 6J16 4-23

I'm no expert on matching wheel sizes to tyre sizes.... does anyone have any advice about what size of tyre would fit on a rim of that size?

Thanks in advance

Giles

Yet another special edition for the DS3. This time its a notable step up in internal quality.

There are limited photos at the moment, but the Ultra Prestige will be on show at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 later this month.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/271966/citroen_ds3_special_edition.html

-This edition offers a new roof design, the DS signature pattern (the same design thats on your steering wheel and bonnet). The roof design changes from a matt to gloss finish depending on the lighting.
-New white leather dashboard and door panels.
-New wrist watch effect leather seats, as already seen in the DS4 and DS5. The new seats come in a new colour effect with white at the headrest merging into black at the base of the seat.
-New charcoal-grey 17" wheels.
-The normal chrome grill, side strips and wing mirrors will have a darker chrome effect.

We know the DS3 is part of the new quality range, but Citroen are still pushing the quality to the next stage. Keep it up lads!

While this thread is not directly related to a new Special Edition DS3, it is a great source for finding out first about future Special Editions. Citroen frequently post photos of new concept cars, new models and new special editions.

Its a good way to see what the rest of the Citroen followers think as they give their opinions on the photos.

http://www.facebook.com/Citroen

From time to time Citroen also run competitions for their friends on Facebook. A few weeks ago there was a game where you used your smartphone to find nearby virtual DS4s, like a huge game of treasure hunt so you could win a new DS4. So its worthwhile adding it as a friend. You wont be plagued every 2 hours with them telling you what they had for lunch or dinner.

I have spoken with our dealer, we now realise that Citroen had a printing error within the DStyle brochure, which is now corrected. Our brochure states that the kit was a standard option!
Our dealer said that this kit cannot be retro fitted to a DStyle Plus, and is trying to find an alternative. I would be grateful if any of you know of a good after sales kit which gives similar functionality?
I have a new Dtyle + Hdi and according to the spec this is fitted with the City Signature pack i.e auto lights, auto wipers and reversing sensors. My question is, do owners of the same model have the visual display when reversing on the central display panel? I visited the dealer today to be told that this can not be activated with this display. Is this true or am I being fobbed off?? The sensors emit a beep OK and this changes when near an object, I do notice that the sound emanates from some sort of buzzer in the boot rather than the speakers.

An additional question relates to the USB Box. When this was fitted to my old C4 it displayed playlists, artist etc when connected to my iphone. The box has been activated today by the dealer, but other than being able to remotely control the tracks and volume from the steering column control, I am not getting the same functionality as in my old C4. Any ideas please?
